"Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me - That’s Science?!"

A Brainy, Buzzy, Game-Show-Style Event from the Health and Science Neighborhood at Mary Baldwin University

What do lab-grown meat, microplastics in rainwater, AI doctors, and sleep as an anti-inflammatory have in common? They all sound totally made up — but they're not (probably). Join us for "Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me - That’s Science?!," an offbeat, on-point celebration of the most fascinating, confusing, and occasionally hilarious science making headlines.

In the spirit of NPR’s “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!” we’ll quiz students, faculty, and guest experts on real (and fake) science stories ripped from the news. From climate change curveballs to cutting-edge cures, we’ll separate the pseudoscience from the seriously cool.

Bonus: Prizes for audience players who can separate the science from the nonsense!

Segments include:

  • Not My Job,
  • Bluff the Listener
  • Brain Blitz
  • Listener Limerick Challenge

Panel of scientific experts include the following MBU faculty:

  • Kadrin Anderson, MS - Assistant Professor of Biology
  • Chesney Carroll, MSPA, PA-C - Assistant Professor, MSPA Program
  • Rebecca Haberman, PhD - Associate Professor of Biology
  • David McLeod, PhD - Associate Professor of Biology (previously Health Sciences)

Co-Host: Paul Menzer, Provost and Professor of Shakespeare and Performance
Co-Host: Paul Deeble, Professor of Biology and Coordinator, Health and Science Neighborhood

MBU Signature Events are a new series of public lectures, performances, and community experiences hosted by Mary Baldwin University and designed to engage both the campus and broader Staunton communities.
