Lecture by Beth Nelson entitled "Sam Collins and Mercer Tiles: The best made in the world," co-sponsored by the Historical Staunton Foundation and Mary Baldwin University's History Department. This talk and discussion will focus on the work of local architect Sam Collins and his use of Arts & Crafts tiles in the ‘20s and ‘30s.
Sam Collins, of T.J. Collins & Son Architects, included Mercer tiles in 34 of his designs. Learn about Sam Collins, Henry Mercer, and follow their design process through correspondence and drawings. See the end results with our exploration of four street-visible installations in Staunton. Leave with a self-guided walking tour map.
